Powerhouse Museum

Hey all, just letting you know that the powerhouse museum is showing a good collection of design awards from HSC students to University students and is a good way to see what kind of products and ideas are useful in todays society.
I took a few photos of the interesting ones:
This is a 1:400 scale mode of the Aldar HQ, located in Dubai. This model, along with its surroundings was tested using a wind tunnel how wind loads might affect different structural and cladding designs.

This Pulse Heart Transportation System is used to preserve and sustain a donor's heart in transportation in order to give the patient greater success with his/her heart transplant and with this significantly new development the hearts life during transportation is dramatically increased.

These wireless speaker units were designed specifically for people gathering in pubs. The speaker localises the sound whether from the TV or Radio and reduces the overall noise levels in the venue.

This Bumpfree Dynamic Speed Bump contains a fluid with both flexibility and durability. The unique properties of this fluid allows cars to drive slowly over the speed bump without experiencing any actual 'bump,' however, if the car speeds over the bump, the fluid-like substance hardens, similar to the traditional speed-bump we still use.

Some other cool designs I thought were interesting were the designs located in the sustainable product section of the museum. These plates, cups and cutlery are made from reconstituted bamboo and are entirely biodegradable. Bamboo is a strong, light, cheap and sustainable alternative to plastic and/or silverware.

This is just one example I picked from the DesignTECH exhibition for Year 12 students in 2010. It is an instantly deployed relief shelter built with the intention of providing sustainable relief for victims. It was designed in response to the Haiti disaster and is a quick and easy method of providing relief to victims fast.
